The 10 Laws of the Architect of Aesthetics
The following 10 Laws of the Architect of Aesthetics are an excerpt from my latest book, Architect of Aesthetics, the ultimate guide to building the aesthetic physique.
One of my favorite pieces of penmanship I’ve ever laid down, the 10 Laws of the Architect Aesthetics are the compilation of the 10 biggest lessons and truths when it comes to fitness success that I have gathered over the course of years of study, reflection, and the trial and error of continuous implementation.
They will guide you in your journey of the gym & the world at large and you can always come back to them for structure and a steady reminder that will stand the test of time. Though simple in nature, it will put an end to many of the common questions, confusion, and arguments pertaining to achieving your ideal physique.
Such a lesson is so valuable that I have chosen to include it here for all to see and benefit from, regardless if you’ve purchased a copy or not.
Enjoy.
Lastly, before you set sail and disappear into the horizon in pursuit of gains and glory, there is one more thing that you must know.
Over the years in the pursuit of aesthetics and physical prowess, there have been many bloody battles that have stained the pure cloth of the noble desire of self-actualization. Many have risen to the occasion, and many have fallen and failed.
Divides have been established amongst the people, and those who seek their goals have been crushed amidst the confusion and tyranny that has been established.
Despite the madness, however, there is hope.
Passed down from generation to generation and guarded heavily amongst the wisest in the world are these golden nuggets of Ancient wisdom that I will bestow upon you:
THE 10 LAWS OF THE ARCHITECT OF AESTHETICS
It will take a wise person to obey these laws. Many are not up for the task and will break them in their own ignorance or at the expense of those they encounter.
You, future champion, are better than that, however.
Study these laws. Revisit them often. Let them guide you in your times of confusion. In training, in recovery, in nutrition – and for those with the eye to see, in life.
I. HONOR YOUR GOAL
VICTORY results from driven FOCUS.
You must know EXACTLY what you want. Only THEN are you unstoppable in your pursuit.
Indecision and fickleness will lead to little more than defeat and time sifting through your fingers like grains of sand to be lost in the wind and never return.
When you’re strong on both sides, you’re weak on both sides. Pick your path and be congruent through and through.
II. THE BODY OPERATES ON A SPECTRUM
Right/Wrong. Good/Bad. Black/White. Effective/Worthless.
Abandon this foolish thinking.
There are only varying DEGREES. It is up to YOU to decide how far to go and when to pull back. The power lies in your hands.
Does that frighten you?
III. THE BODY ACTS IN PHASES
The body is not subject to rapid swings. Results don’t flash and disappear like lightning in the sky. They are molded by time and persistence like a great canyon.
Time doesn’t reset at midnight within the body, and it cares not whether it’s Tuesday or Friday.
Time is a mental construct, and you will not be bound by it. You will plant yourself in the PRESENT and use time as a tool to devise your plans but nothing more. If you live in the past or future, you will never truly live at all.
Observe as the body follows its rhythm through time and remain patient. Work with it. Stay consistent. Patience is a virtue, and the best moves are the slow and strategic ones that turn the tide of war without anyone being the wiser.
Acting on impulse has led to few successes but thousands more destructive defeats.
IV. THERE ARE NO HARD RULES. ONLY TECHNIQUES AND TOOLS
Does an artist paint with one brush, one stroke, or one color alone? Or do they bring life to their work through various shades, styles, and colors?
We will adopt the position of an artist and use what best suits what we are trying to create with the things at our disposal.
Nevertheless…
MAXIM OF AESTHETICS: All is valid but not all is valuable.
When you internalize this, you will truly be free
V. CONSIDER ALL OF THE VARIABLES ON HAND
Rarely are there isolated variables in the process of physical development. Everything is connected, and where you alter one, you alter another. Learn to measure your tradeoffs.
Hover above the situation unchained, seeing things for what they are in their entirety. Only then can you make the best decision.
VI. THE BODY IS MASTERFULLY BUILT TO SURVIVE AND ADAPT
The crux of physical development is knocking the body out of homeostasis to bring about some change. Overloading the muscle to spur growth. Creating a caloric deficit to drop body fat.
While we can do many things with our knowledge of the body to bring about good changes, let us recognize that we cannot outsmart Mother Nature through magic and manipulation. She’s a much wiser vixen.
In regards to extreme actions and stubborn dogmas, a simple question sends silly ideas to the guillotine:
How does this make sense from a survival standpoint?
Rest in pieces.
VII. SIMPLICITY IS THE SOLUTION
The allure of fanciful techniques, concoctions, and programs is high.
You will be put to the test by distractions and terrific claims, but you must never lose sight of the basic principles.
A great tree must have its roots planted firmly within the soil. The seasons change and the leaves come and go, but true to its roots in the steady Earth the tree will remain.
VIII. MAKE GOLD OF WHAT IS GIVEN
The true mark of an architect of aesthetics lies in taking what he is presented with and turning it into a masterpiece. Every human being is presented with their own unique situation from their life to their body to their circumstances. We will work with this like alchemists.
Alchemy is the ancient science and philosophy of purifying and perfecting material items. The mortal into immortal. The base metals into GOLD. The architect of aesthetics is an alchemist applied to human form. You will take what you are given and make gold.
The things that you’ve been given aren’t as important as what you can do with them. Let’s see what you’re made of.
IX. STAY HUMBLE
From the brisk breezes of Japan that tickle the pink rose blossoms in full bloom, the philosophy of kaizen has traveled and fluttered into our hands.
The philosophy of kaizen is the philosophy of continuous improvement. Every day, in any way, there lies some step to improve. Some way to progress. If you believe you can…
No matter how far we come, we will remain humble and open to new ideas, learning, and growth. No matter how far we come, we will remain innocent and ignorant like the child who has just stepped into the light for the first time from its cradle in the cave.
“I am wise for I know nothing.” said Socrates.
Are you much greater?
X. NEVER FORGET THE HUMAN BEING
We speak of taking to the body to its highest splendor, but let us never forget that animating and wielding that body is a PERSON.
A person with a past. A person with dreams. A person with interests, feelings, and a life outside of the walls of the weight room and the echoes of the iron.
The true architect of aesthetics recognizes that…
MAXIM OF AESTHETICS: Fitness is just the medium – not the mission.
You will place the success of the INDIVIDUAL over the success of the system. You will place LIFE above lifting.
You shall never forget the human being.
