Mental Input Material (MIM)
If I told you to bake a cake with nothing but a bunch of bricks and cement, could you do it? What about if I told you to build a castle with nothing but eggs, flour, and sugar?
Of course not. You would need the right materials.
Now where do you think your mind gets the material it uses to think, remember, desire, imagine, and create?
Everything has to come from somewhere, and nothing can be created that is more than the different pieces that went into creating it.
The answer is: From everything you put and allow into your mind. This is what I call Mental Input Material (MIM).
Basics of Mental Input Material
Your mind is a big supercomputer, and the way you see the world is going to be heavily determined by all of the information that has come in through your senses and been stored over the years.
As you saw earlier, this big ‘database’ is key in my aesthetic theory, and it’s a key driver for the first perception stage in the thought sequence by generating automatic responses and belief systems.
Sources of Mental Input Material
MIM comes in many forms and flavors, and by definition, it is everything that you input into your mind, either internal or external as I’ve demonstrated with the thought sequence.
This includes people, places, media, and the thoughts you’ve formed in relation to your experiences with all of this.
Trojan Horses and IMPs
Before digging into MIM, you must look at where you are now.
Much of your MIM ‘database’ has come from your upbringing or times when you simply didn’t know any better.
This can either be good or bad and highlights the importance of forming young minds the right way to set people up for success instead of distress. Based on this, you’ve formed a worldview and beliefs about yourself and the things around you.
Society, media, and social institutions all play a role, but these usually come in the form of Trojan horses or are thrust upon you by IMPs (Installed Mental Programs).
Trojan Horses
Trojan horses are sources of input that package themselves as being useful or good for you but are truly only hurting you silently.
Installed Mental Programs (IMPs)
IMPs are belief systems installed in you through authority or outside influence. This will blind you from truth and alter your perception of what you believe to be important. The world taught you what to think, not how to think.
But it’s all good. Once you’ve recognized your current situation, it’s up to you to remodel your mental mansion how you choose by giving your mind the fuel it needs to achieve your goals.
You may even have to completely demolish it and rebuild from the ground up.
But it’s all good because:
Sometimes you’ve got to break down the mess to get to true success.
The Benefits of Mental Input Material
You know that nutrition is vital for giving your body what it needs to grow and function at its best.
MIM is the same thing to your mind.
By fine tuning your mental input material, you will:
- Give yourself the correct building blocks for your reality
- Grow and develop into the person of your choice
- Destroy any negativity that has seeped into your life
- Stay on the right track to success
- Live clean, happy, and efficient
The Biggest Rule of Mental Input Material
The #1 rule when it comes to Mental Input Material is this:
Everything that you expose yourself to is your choice and for a purpose that takes you further and lifts you higher.
That means no negativity. Nothing holding you back. Only things that help you grow.
No exceptions.
Mental input material is a concept I first introduced in my book, Architect of Aesthetics.
I will be expanding upon this in more detail in future posts, so be sure to subscribe.
