The #1 Answer to Your Fitness Questions
I have a very special post for you all today.
It’s the #1 answer to your fitness questions.
You know…like:
- How much volume should I do?
- Is sugar bad?
- How many carbs should I eat?
- Should I lift heavy or light?
- How much sleep do I need?
- How many days a week should I be in the gym?
- Should I be doing cardio?
- Is intermittent fasting good to do?
And so on.
Are you ready for the answer?
Really ready?
Cuz here it is:
IT DEPENDS.
Yeah, you read that right: it depends.
There’s your answer.
I know that there are tons of people out there that want to give you black and white answers. Yes and no answers. That want to sell you fancy programs and magical solutions to your problems. But the truth is:
There are no one-size fits all solutions. It all depends.
What you should do in any situation changes based on who you are as a person, your lifestyle, your level of development, and a bunch of other factors.
You’ve got to do your homework and think through these things!
For example, intermittent fasting may be a great idea for a busy executive who only has the time to hit the gym 3 times a week for 30 minutes and is only concerned with losing weight and building a little bit of muscle.
But it would probably not be the best option for an off-season bodybuilder looking to maximize muscle growth who requires over 3000 calories a day.
See where I’m going with this?
Everything just depends.
I can’t give you a clear-cut answer because there are no clear cut answers.
Our bodies, minds, goals, and lifestyles are all different, so if you want to get the best results for you, you have to look at everything independently and how it impacts you as a person.
How to Think More Critically
To help you out with that, here are some questions for you to consider whenever you have a question like the ones I posed at the beginning of this post:
- What is this exactly (what is intermittent fasting, what does it do, what doesn’t it do, etc for example)?
- What is my goal (be very specific here – how far and how fast do you want to go)?
- How does this influence my goal?
- Does it influence anything else as a side effect (mentally, lifestyle, etc)
- Based on this, what should my course of action be?
From there, you are off to a great start with custom-fitting your program to you.
And just remember, like I talked about in my post over the 3Ps of a Great Fitness Program, don’t just look at the physical. Look at how this impacts you psychologically and practically for your lifestyle as well.
Conclusion
And there you have it.
The next time you hear such open ended questions about fitness, just remember: it depends.
What may be great for one person may be terrible for another. It’s all a matter of who is asking and what their goals are.
Resist the temptation to fall into black or white thinking and make blanket generalizations just because it’s easier or appeals that lazy part of you we all share.
