The Driver
At the beginning of the book, I gave you the keys to your dream ride. Pristinely polished, turbo-charged, exquisite. A lady at the light, but a beast in the streets.
Think back to that car. Picture yourself driving it. Imagine winding and weaving through the roadways in any exotic location you desire. It’s all yours.
Got it? Good.
Your body is that car.
Your mind is the steering wheel, pedals, and dashboard.
…and YOU are the driver.
You’re right there behind the wheel. Observing traffic. Checking the dash. Taking the ride to wherever you want to go.
- When you feel intense emotions…
- when you feel that fatigue kicking in…
- when you feel hurt and anger…
- when you’re hit by your memories…
- when you’re met with temptation…
…those are nothing more than the little signals on your dashboard going off.
- Check-engine light appeared.
- The gas-light just came on.
- Anger light just came on.
- Hungry and drained just appeared.
Same thing.
Sometimes you get a dent or a crack in the windshield. You’ve got to flip the tires or get an oil change. You rack up thousands of miles and pass by lots of cities as your adventures unfold. The scenery, song on the radio, and parts are always changing, but you are always the driver.
I know that a whip like this is pretty damn sweet, but I’d sure as hell hope that you don’t run around thinking that YOU are the car. You’re not.
You are not your body or mind. You are much more than that. They are at your service, not the other way around.
You are more than just your make and model. You are more than just where you born. You are more than just your beliefs. You are more than just where you have been and what has happened to you. And so is everybody else.
When the driver is strong and skilled, they can hop in any car and make magic happen. THAT’S putting the PERSON in the 4Ps of Success.
Extra tip: Next time you are on the roadways, observe the actions of others driving and how you view the things that appear on the roads and in the driver’s seat. You will learn much about human nature and understand this analogy even more this way.

You are the Driver
The above has been an excerpt from my book, Architect of Aesthetics.
It is vital that you understand this analogy.
It is at the very core of my teachings and is something I will commonly refer back to whenever I discuss the mind or body.
Oftentimes, we look in the mirror and roll through life thinking that our mind, body, and identity are one in the same.
This is not the case.
You are not the car. You are the driver.
Like a drool-worthy automobile, the body is a magnificent machine that out-shines even the finest engineering mastery conceivable by the human mind. And the same can be said about that very mind itself.
But these are simply that.
Machines.
Tools at your disposal. Tools that must be understood and applied properly.
So just remember:
When you see someone driving, look beyond the windshield to see the person within.
They are not the car. They are the driver.
Whenever you feel fatigue, hunger, or pain.
You are not the car. You are the driver.
When you feel anger, sadness, or joy.
You are not the car. You are the driver.
You got sick or injured and the world seems to be crashing all around you.
You are not the car. You are the driver.
Creating that disconnect is crucial and is the first step towards greater things. I will flush things out in more detail and expand these ideas in future posts so make sure to subscribe and stay tuned for more.
Repeat after me:
You are not the car. You are the driver.
…now where do you wanna go?
